Welcome To PCVSC

Pacific Coast Veterinary Specialty Center (PCVSC) is a newly established nonprofit, multispecialty veterinary hospital in Southern California. Founded by a passionate group of women with a profound love for animals, PCVSC aims to advance veterinary care that is accessible and affordable for our clients. We are equally committed to fostering the positive mental well-being of our doctors and staff.

Who we are

PCVSC is a women-led nonprofit veterinary specialty hospital dedicated to providing compassionate care to animals in need. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of veterinarians.

Our goal is to demonstrate how nonprofit veterinary specialty hospitals can serve as a successful and preferred alternative to traditional for-profit hospital models.

What we do

As a new nonprofit veterinary specialty and teaching hospital, PCVSC is committed to providing the gold standard of veterinary care in a manner that remains accessible and affordable for our clients.

Our facility also serves as a training ground for veterinary students, interns, and residents, who work alongside board-certified specialty veterinarians to gain hands-on experience. Additionally, we offer subsidized treatment and service options to pet owners facing financial hardships.

A Crisis in the Making

The pet care industry is expected to triple in size over the next 10 years. The opposite holds true for those dedicated to helping animals. Inflation, skyrocketing veterinary costs, and a shortage of veterinarians are forcing pet owners to make difficult choices when their pets become ill.

Lack of Affordable Care

In 2023, general veterinary costs at hospitals increased by up to 30%. Additionally, a 2019 survey revealed that while one in four U.S. households owns a pet, 80% of respondents cited financial barriers as a significant obstacle to pet ownership.

Veterinary Shortage

In California, approximately 7,700 veterinarians currently provide care to over 5.4 million animals. However, projections indicate a significant shortfall, with an estimated shortage of nearly 15,000 veterinarians by the year 2030.

Overcrowded Shelters

Animal shelters across the nation are facing a critical surge in owner relinquishments and a rise in euthanasia rates. According to a 2022 ASPCA survey, over 66% of shelters and rescues identified managing medical issues as the primary obstacle to pet adoption. In 2023, nearly 2 million pets were euthanized, marking a three-year high.
